This is an instrument that is made for the 21st century Irish flute player. At the heart of the flute is the Tapered Tuning Slide. Also known as the TTS 10,000. It eliminates the need for a barrel joint with it's inherent flaws. Instead of a bore that increases at the end of the tuning slide only to encounter cork tenons before it reaches the tapered body, my flute has a straight bore all the way through to the beginning of the body. The TTS 10,000 goes in place of the cork tenon and increases stability. And because it is tapered on the inside to match the tapered bore of the body, no compression is lost. Best of all, no cracking barrel joint. Why the 10,000? Well if you're considering buying a flute and one has a TTS and one has a TTS 10,000 which one are you going to buy? The one with the TTS 10,000!
Why the wide bands? Because those thin bands aren't going to do much to keep the wood from cracking.
This instrument is not meant to be a copy of a 19th century flute. It utilizes modern design and know how.
